I should probably start by introducing myself, my name is Amalia Zachopoulos.. I’ll let you catch your breath after that one as it’s a bit of a mouthful, also whilst on that topic contrary to popular belief my name is actually pronounced “Emma-Leah” . Yes thanks mum and dad! So not only can I never find a keyring with my name on it no one is able to pronounce it either.
I’m a 24 year old pocket rocket who is passionate about music and travel; some would describe me as fun, loyal, bubbly, even a hidden gem. All those feel good words, when in reality I’m just a little lost in this big bad world and trying to find my way.
My travel experiences to date have made me uneasy to say the least. From a Ferry crash in Thailand to monkey bites in Bali to getting a big shiny black eye in the US, I have to constantly remind myself that travel has improved my confidence and given me greater life skills. After being positive that the words Amalia and travel were not meant to be in the same sentence I decided to give it one last crack.
My friend and I booked a girl’s trip to Bali. What was turning out to be a disaster of a holiday (having our stuff stolen from the locals) turned out to be the best one yet. Whilst overlooking the party goers I was approached by a handsome tall man. Now this was not out of the ordinary because being in Bali felt like you were in some sort of discount meat market. He started to talk to me and after the few minutes where they usually decide to leave he stuck around.
We were inseparable, and in him I found a best friend, and someone that inspired me to be the best person I could be. I believe it’s the people you meet that make travel the vibrant experience that it is. They shape our memories more than the locations themselves. They shine lights on our darkness and teach us about ourselves.
Months on and we still keep in frequent contact. Being a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, I now realise that it was for him to inspire me to travel in his footsteps.
That being said, We have almost reached the middle of 2017 and I’m soon to begin my very first (and fingers crossed not the last) solo travel adventure. This blog is for me to share my raw and honest accounts of all my travel experiences. I can’t wait to share my journey with you.
